Ice Cream

Ingredients
  • 5 eggs
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups cream
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla
  • 3 quarts whole milk
When we hit the hot spell in the summer of 1998, I thought we needed some home-made ice cream, and so I dug out my mother's recipe, a 4th-of-July thing. Now, this recipe uses raw eggs, and I suppose everybody knows about the salmonella scare these days, so you can use your own judgment. For my part, I think ice cream with cooked eggs tastes like, well, ice cream with cooked eggs. The amounts and proportions are those required to fit our 1-gallon freezer. Adjust as needed. Here you go.
  1. Beat the eggs with a mixer.

  2. Mix inthe other ingredients.

  3. Freeze it.
