The day I took this photo the banner hung on the front of the Cozy proclaimed the 80th anniversary of the establishment. Eighty years of aromatic sliders, 1922-2002. The Cozy is a legend in Salina. (Visit the Cozy's website, linked below, for reminiscences and testimonials.) Most people buy sacks of the little burgers to carry out or home, because if you eat at the counter inside, then you smell like Cozy burgers for the rest of the day. These are old-fashioned 1920s burgers, the way the White Castle (which originated down the road in Wichita) used to make them before it went mass-market. Ground beef smashed out on the grill, onions piled on, then the buns steamed atop.
