"Kansas," wrote the historian Carl Becker, "is a state of mind."|
"So is a cowboy," Jim says. "The real combines with the mythic, the historical with the contemporary, to
create an image in the mind's eye. We know what a cowboy looks like. We know how one acts, how he
dresses, what he does, where he can be found. But as with many images created primarily in the
imagination (whether individual or collective), the truth is often more complex."
This work is Jim's pursuit of that complex truth across his native state of Kansas.
