This is an anthology of articles selected from the journal, North Dakota History, and
published on the occasion of the centennial of the State Historical Society of North Dakota.
It includes Tom's article, "Custom Combining in North Dakota," along with a fine variety of
pieces ranging in topic from archeology to television. The lead article is Elwyn Robinson's
famous essay on the six themes of North Dakota history. Other highlights include Fred
Schneider on archeology; Stanley Murray on the Turtle Mountain Chippewa; John Griggs
on the Great Dakota Boom; John Hudson on frontier housing; Gordon Eisenmenger on the
German-Russians of McIntosh County; Barbara Handy-Marchello on the anti-liquor
crusade in Hatton, North Dakota; Dave Danbom on the North Dakota Agricultural
Experiment Station; Kathie R. Anderson on Era Bell Thompson; and Larry Remele on the
farm strike of 1932. Good reading!
