Books for Review in the Buffalo Commons

The scope of reviewing is, of course, regional.  The weblog features reviews of books that treat the Great Plains as subject; are written by authors from the plains; or are of particular interest to readers of the plains.

The managers of the blog select titles that should be reviewed, commission reviews, and obtain review copies for the reviewers.  Suggestions of books to be reviewed are welcome.  Contact the blogmaster: zannie@plainsfolk.com

Reviewers, please observe these guidelines.

·        Under the title of your posting, provide a heading giving author, title, and publication data (see previous reviews in the weblog).

·        Say what you think of the book, but be fair and informative.  Treat authors and readers with respect.  Authors want a reading that takes into account what they are trying to do.  Readers not only want to know what you think of the book but also enough about it to make judgments for themselves.

·        Don’t get windy.  500 words is a good length for a review; if you’re contemplating something substantially longer, check with the blogmaster first.

·        Give us clean prose.

·        Since the blog encourages dialog, it’s a good idea to close the review with suggestions for discussion—things that perhaps you are still mulling and would like to see others comment about.  No review here is the final word.  Each is just part of a work in progress.  Help keep the ball in the air.
